iPray – 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting – Day 2

Most of the time when you begin a season of prayer and fasting , especially if you have never fasted before, you have a variety of thoughts and feelings.  For example you:

  • are excited about what God is going to do in your life,
  • wonder if you will be able to keep your commitment and complete the fast,
  • you think about what food(s) you are going to be giving up during the fast,
  • you think about what you are going to pray about during this season,
  • you probably even think about how the fast will affect you physically, (how much weight you will lose).

All of this is normal and natural.

But I assure you of this, the spiritual pay-off is worth the physical price.  One of the most practical and beneficial things you can do before and during a fast, is to take advantage of resources that explain, teach, and testify to the benefits of prayer and fasting.

In today’s blog, I want to share with you some resources that I have found helpful over the years on fasting.

BOOKS

Fasting – by Jentzen Franklin

The Fasting Edge – by Jentzen Franklin

The Power of Prayer and Fasting – by Ronnie Floyd

Fasting Forward – by Billy Wilson

Awakening – by Stovall Weems

This is not an exhaustive list by any means.  I have read other books on the subject but these books are readily available.  Each of these books are filled with solid biblical teaching and testimonies that will encourage and motivate you during your fast.

WEBSITES

www.awake21.org

This website is probably the most comprehensive site I know that deals with prayer and fasting.

One of the features of this website is the “Virtual Conference”.  Three times a day for the entire 21 days you will be able to hear teaching on prayer and fasting from some of the most influential church leaders today. (Awakening – 21 days of prayer and fasting begins on January 15th.)

It is estimated that over 1million believers across America participated in some type of fast to begin 2011. By all indications, this spiritual movement is gaining momentum and the numbers will be even greater this year.

I am thrilled the Church of God in Virginia is part of this movement.  Together we are building the Kingdom of God in Virginia.
